Unit 7 - Sequencing Learning Aim A

In lesson one we learnt how to open reason, what a MIDI was and how to create and use the mixer. We learnt about various different techniques such as bass channel, master volume, treble channel boosting,  cutting and what panning is.

In lesson two I explored, experimented and worked on my mixer ensuring I knew  how to use it.

In lesson three we learnt what a MIDI was and how to import it. For example a MIDI is a computerised piece of music.

In lesson four we learnt how to create redrums (drums) and how to use them. I learnt how the ten channels worked by creating a pattern sequence.

In lesson five I worked on my drum pattern.

In lesson six we learnt how to create NNXT  - advanced sampler.

In lesson seven I learned how to use the sampler. For example I now know how  to pick a particular sound and how to click keys in and how to use the keyboard. This also links in what I learnt about step time.

In lesson eight I learnt how to import an audio file and to remind ourselves how to import a MIDI file.

In lesson nine I learnt how to create and use a loop using it with different instruments.

In lesson ten I learnt what and how to create a Subtractor Analog Synthesizer.

In lesson eleven I again used the subtractor synthesizer and made sure the waveform fitted.

In lesson twelve I learnt what oscillation was for example oscillation is the production of a certain type of waveform, which produces a different sound depending on the shape of the waveform.

"Reverberation is the persistence of sound in a particular space after the original sound is produced. A reverberation, or reverb, is created when a sound is produced in an enclosed space causing a large number of echoes to build up and then slowly decay as the sound is absorbed by the walls and air."

"Delay is an audio effect which records an input signal to an audio storage medium, and then plays it back after a period of time. The delayed signal may either be played back multiple times, or played back into the recording again, to create the sound of a repeating, decaying echo."
"Noise gate It provides a predefined attenuation, be it total muting or an intermediate level, which is known as "range", or, sometimes "depth". For instance, we could attenuate 20 dB or 40 dB, or just close the gate completely (-infinity attenuation)."

MIDI - A computerised piece of music.

"Oscillator Oscillation itself is the production of a certain type of waveform, which produces a different sound depending on the shape of the waveform. "

Self assessment

Before we started this unit I did not even know what  MIDI was, or even know what reason was but now I understand all of this. I think it has helped me talking and showing what I know to the class, this has extended and made me think more in depth of how to make music on the computer.
I believe that I am comfortable to add and select instruments and sound using the sampler and redrums. I also know how to do loops,  pre-recorded samples and copying and pasting notes and regions, this is shown in my presentation.

I think I need to use my creativity by creating my own sounds using the synthesizer.

For slide 6 this is my Redrums

For slide 8 this is my NNXT Sampler

For slide 15 this is my Sub Tractor Synthesizer

The reason I have only done the mixer as I think it is the most important because it controls balance panning and all of the inserts.
