Unit 7 - Sequencing Learning Aim B

Where Is The love  -  by Black Eyed Peas

Lesson 1 - I first needed to work out the BPM (beats per minute) for my song.  I found this particularly tricky as  it was very precise ie  94.140 bpm. After I had found the BPM I also chose all of my patches for my redrum.

Lesson 2 - I worked out the beat to 'Where Is The Love'. This helped me work out where the strong beats needed to be and how many beats were in each bar.  I was then able to create the beat for a redrum pattern which had sixteen steps.

Lesson 3 -  In this lesson I added a slap beat to the piece of music which  I found quite easy to do as I had already worked out the beats per bar.

Lesson 4 -  I used the redrum again to develop my song and my skills. I found this simple to do.

Lesson 5 - I explored and used NNXT and added notes to make a riff from the song.

Lesson 6 -  I used NNXT again and created  NNXT 2 so I was able to add a second riff. I found this more difficult because  I had to work out which notes worked with the other riff and put in a rhythm which worked.

Lesson 7 - For my last lesson I added NNXT 3 so I could create an introduction  for the start of my song.  I  finished my 30 second piece and made the song into an audio file so you can listen to it.

Evaluation
In working on the Learning objective for Aim B I really feel that I developed my skills in using NNXT and how to sequence using NNXT. I feel confident in adding extra musical lines and putting them together.   However, I need to practise  putting the notes in the correct patterns and rhythms.  This is one of my weak points and to do well I need to be able to learn and practise this, perhaps by listening to other riffs or melodic and rhythmical songs.

My song is to be used as a sound-track for an advert to promote visiting New York. I think 'Where Is The Love' fits well as the song is set in an urban area and it is a catchy popular song. I also think it is appropriate as it raises awareness of racism and how we can all live in harmony whatever our skin colour or culture difference.
