Unit 2 Creating a music product - Learning aim A

Week 1 (1/2/16)
My group and I  have chosen the target audience of 13-25-year-olds men and women for this new project. Me ( Frazer Griffin) and Califa Kandekore gave this idea to the group and our group also decided that this was a good idea and it was our final decision for this audience. Firstly, for our first song on our CD we choose  the genre Indie Rock and the song will be "Down by the River", this was my idea however, Connor had the idea of the genre of Indie Rock. We chose this song because I knew  a student which could play the song so the logistics of getting someone to play for us would be easy.
I will be recording three separate tracks and then mixing them on a program called "Reason". We also decided on a second track which was the genre of grime and Ki and Ismael gave this idea to the group. Our final song that we decided on was the genre of pop and maybe something by Justin Timberlake, this idea was given by Califa and myself. Califa had the idea of remixing two songs instead of just one, the group and I discussed the positives and the negatives of this and we came to the conclusion to only do one song as it would take too much time and is very complicated to put together. Ismael did not have one particular job, we decided that he will be helping each of us ensuring that we stay on task and complete the work to the best we can. Ismael will listen to each track and offer us advise. We decided as a team that I would oversee our project making sure that everything runs smoothly and goes to plan.
As a group our overall plan was to record, mix, check and then burn it onto the CD and then advertise.

Copyright issues
Copyright in the music industry is when the person who owns a copyright for the song has the right to decide whether their music is allowed to play to the public. Despite this if you are able to get permission you are allowed to play the music publicly. I have considered  that if we were to sell our CD there would be problems in the collection of royalties. Therefore, we will not sell the CD or give them away.

Week 2 (8/2/16)
The jobs that we assigned to me this week was to finish mixing my track and upload it; due for Wednesday. The job that we as a team assigned Ki to do was to finish his Grime track by Wednesday and to have it checked by Ismael to ensure that everything was perfect. We also voted who would burn the cd's by half term and everyone voted Ismael including himself, the deadline for this was by the half term. Connor will also be researching promotional products for other CD's like ours and helping us with our tracks to so they are finished by Wednesday.

Week 3
Ki, unfortunately could not finish his Grime track by last Wednesday as he lost his work on Garage Band on one of the Ipads. As a team, we made a new deadline for him which is the end of this week. However, everyone else has finished their tasks from last week so we are now finding promotional material to collect ideas so we can then produce our own. I volunteered for social media promotional material on Twitter as most artists use twitter so they can promote their products. Califa has put himself forward to research and make a poster for our CD. Conor's task is to research and advertise the press release. All of our promotional material has to be completed by the end of next week. I also volunteered to make the logo/album design for our CD. I did not get a lot of time for this so at the end of the lesson Califfa and I decided that he will help complete this task. The document below is what I researched.
Week 4
This week our group decided on the name CFK Mix. This was our name because it all meant something personal to us and we thought that audiences would like finding out the personal connection with the artists behind the CD.  We also thought it was suited to the type of audience who would like our music as it is a cool and catchy name. I was due to finish my promotional twitter page which I did and believe that I did it to an excellent standard, as I researched other similar pages and I feel it  suited our audience. Everyone else has now completed their promotional material and we have now uploaded our final material.
I believe my twitter page is of an outstanding standard because our target audience is the age group of whom most twitter. This is good because we are more likely to get a bigger following. Therefore, we potentially could sell more CD's. Secondly, on the page it says where the user can get the album. This is very effective as it pops up straight away.

Evaluation Learning aim C
For this Unit I believe I took a leading role. I did this by being involved in producing one of our songs, ensuring that everyone had a dead -line to complete their task which helped motivate us all to make sure everything went to plan.  From the very beginning, I was involved in giving the group ideas and suggestions. I knew that I couldn't just sit back and let everyone do the work for me, we had to work as a team. For example I gave the idea of using the computers to edit our music. This gave our tracks a better sound and overall making it a better quality.
In our planning stages
Our task has gone very well with very little setbacks. Our main one was when Ki lost his work on the ipads but as a team we swiftly got that sorted out. We set ourself deadlines which motivated us to do the work, this is good because then we do not have to worry about not completing the work for the final deadline.
